Long Rant Ahead, TL;DR: In Calgary AB with what feels like a very competitive market at the moment. Looked aggressively with not much turning up, expanded search radius and snapped up what seems like a nice house, though farther out than we wanted. Looking at comparables over the last 6 months it looks like we overpaid by 10 - 15%. Worst part is this is NOT our forever home and we're not sure if I want to follow through with financing.
We currently rent a nice apartment and are fairly happy in our current living situation. I've been wanting to get into the housing market before things climb too much and have been reading a lot about the insane home prices in Toronto and Vancouver but now I feel like I might be a victim of the low inventory at the moment in our typically more affordable city, Calgary.
After looking pretty aggressively for two months, walking away from one after an inspection turned up a many issues, we've finally closed on what feels like a nice house. That said, this is just 24 hours after expanding our search area and increasing our budget by 50k because our market is tough right now. We had an offer accepted last night on a house that's fully updated and has many modern touches, compared to the run down and outdated houses we've previously looked at it feels great and will not need any reno's. The two major drawbacks are its relatively small, and it's further than the city center than we had originally wanted.
I had my realtor pull the comparables for the area and was looking through these unfortunately just before and during our offer going in, we rushed it as this house was only on the market 3 days and we feared someone else would snap it up which has been happening a lot in our market (Calgary, Canada). Comparable houses if not slightly more dated seem to be going for 10 - 15% lower ($50 - 70K) in this area and often a bit bigger than what we're buying. We feel duped, we were tuned in to the truly inner city neighbourhoods and finally got something that wasn't a gut job but can't help feeling like we're getting screwed, paying significantly more than the neighbourhood average.
We have 10 days for conditions to lift while I get an inspection (expecting it go come back good based on our vieweing) for me to think hard about this. The BIG kicker is this is absolutely not our forever home, my partner is a couple years left of school and it's possible we would entertain leaving the city in 2-5 years for a while and may or may not return. I love this city but my goal was to buy an investment, a house that made sense to hedge against rising housing prices. Now I feel like maybe I'm caught up in the frenzy and am making a mistake by overpaying and we may get screwed trying to sell in a few years if we decide to leave.
Thanks for listening to my rant, I'm really struggling with what to do here.

Hi everyone. Just trying to confirm something a freelancer advised me. I am trying to make some relatively simple changes to a site built with (or in?) React.
They advised that because the code is already "deployed" We can't just make these changes without having the original code. Does that sound about right?
So, what would someone do if the original dev was nowhere to be found? You are out of luck and need to rebuild a site?
